What's in a bottle?

Great ingredients make a big difference to the quality of a good spa experience. Read on to find out what one of our Head Therapists at Legacy Balance Spa’s had to say.

As a Skin Care Therapist, I have worked mostly in hotels. During that time, I’ve met both international and local travelers; visitors who are interested in all aspects of a country or area they travel to and who have questions for me in the hour or two that we spend together. Not only does a good therapist need to answer current affairs questions but they also need to have the knowledge to answer medical and science questions regarding the ingredients of the products used in therapies and treatments. Especially if those ingredients are sourced locally.

The Net, has made access to information so simple and with an international move to regulating the industry; skin care brands have become more transparent regarding the ingredients in their products. These regulations have been brought into being as consumers want to know what they put onto and into their bodies. The importance of knowing and understanding the contents of products cannot be underestimated.

The key to healthy skin care is to understand what’s really underneath the lid. Once you know what to look for, you can confidently consider yourself an empowered consumer. Allow Legacy Balance’s empowered skin care professionals to help with your education. Ask questions and demand thorough answers!

We Love

African Botanicals with a feminine touch Legacy Balance supports any initiatives that involve the Empowerment of Women. Prepared and packed by Women on our very own African Continent, let us introduce you to some of the plants used to create skin care brands and beautiful spa experiences around the world while uplifting women across the continent:

  • Baobab Oil (South Africa and Madagascar): This is a lightweight oil which contains Vit A and E, and several fatty acids that can treat psoriasis, eczema and severely dry skin. You find it in face masks, body creams and face lotions.

  • Kalahari Melon (South Africa): This oil comes from a watermelon seed. South Africans have used this oil for ages to protect against the sun, and now you see it more in After sun-protection products.

  • Marula Kernel (Spread out in Africa): Our very own Kwa Maritane and Bakubung Bush Lodges have these trees. The oil from the seed of the Kernel helps to trap moisture in the skin. You will also find it in beverages.

  • Rooibos (South Africa): With AHA and zinc, this powerful antioxidant is great for treating sunburn, acne, eczema. It is found mostly in moisturizers and facial toners.

  • Shea Butter (Ghana): This has a lot of healing and moisturizing properties and it is found mostly in Body Butters.

We Dislike

With more and more people shopping online, it has become easier for counterfeiters to distribute their products anywhere in the world. A lot of people cannot even see that the product is fake until they notice the side effects. This is what you can do to avoid this:

  • Buy from authorized sellers, straight from the brand or its authorized dealers and retailers. These retailers are always listed on the brands official website.

  • Beware of deals that are too good to be true, if an offer from a retailer you have never heard off seems too good to be true, it probably is. Save your money and skin and give it a miss.

  • Use common sense: never ever buy a product online that you have not used before. You do not know how the products are kept and how long they have been there. Because very few products carry use-by dates, the easiest way to tell if it has gone bad is by smell. Even if you have spent a lot of money on it, it does you no good it will only lead to irritation or infection.
